Types of Exterior Masonry Wall Stone

Exterior masonry stone can be divided into two main categories. Natural Stone (Granite, limestone etc) & Manufactured stone (Concrete, compressed Sand).

Natural Stone:

This product is taken from quarries from around the world. Many popular types of masonry wall stones are granite and limestone.  Different regions around the world are known for their unique natural stones, such as Indiana limestone or Italian Granite.  Natural stone for exterior purposes is typically 3-4" in-depth and will be cut into a variety of heights such as 5", 7", 10" with the mortar joints being taken into consideration.  This product can also be left as rubble, where the sizes are inconsistent. This product can also be cut into linear, meaning the heights are the same but the lengths are random within a certain tolerance.

Manufactured Stone

This product is made in manufacturing facilities using aggregates and cement depending on the style. There is a large variation of the styles and sizes available with manufactured stone. They can be either a full bed product (3-4" in depth) or thin cut (1" depth) For exterior application full bed is recommended.
